PAIA manual

The Promotion of Access to Information Act gives you the right to ask for records held by a private company, including records about yourself. This manual, required by section 51 of the Act, explains how to ask Olvian.

1. About Olvian (Pty) Ltd

2. The Regulator's guide

The Information Regulator publishes a guide to using the Act, available at inforegulator.org.za or from the Regulator's offices, in all official languages.

3. Records we hold

requests for cover and their consents; WhatsApp and SMS transcripts; opt-out records; buyer contracts; financial and company records; staff records.

4. Records available without a request

this website, the privacy notice, the Funeral Cover Index, and the list of insurers we refer to.

5. How to request a record

complete Form 2 (available on this page and from the Regulator), send it to the Information Officer, say which record you want and in what form, and, if it is about you, prove your identity. We reply within 30 days.

6. Fees

no fee to request your own personal information. For other records, the prescribed request fee and reproduction fees under the Act apply, and we tell you the amount before we start.

7. Grounds for refusal

the Act lets us refuse where a record would reveal someone else's personal information, or a third party's confidential commercial information, among others. We tell you the reason.

8. How to complain

to the Information Regulator, complaints.IR@justice.gov.za, if we refuse or do not respond.

9. Personal information we process

summarised from the privacy notice, with categories of data subjects, purposes, recipients, cross-border transfers and security measures.
